Our mission is to enhance and support the quality of life for Cowichan Lake area residents. We will strive to do this through education, prevention, recreation, counselling and support groups. It is also our aim to work together with other service agencies in an integrated approach.
The Cowichan Lake Area is committed to being the best place to raise a child!
The Constellations program has been developed using an attachment-based model, and a narrative approach. It is aimed to strengthen relationships and empower adjustment of children and families who are experiencing transitions such as a change in the family structure. Many of the activities may be useful for families not having undergone such changes, and are simply looking for positive ways to reconnect.
Change
Changes in families place a strain on everyone in the family and broader constellation of relationships. Transitions within families may bring about the experience of loss, anxiety and stress. With this program, the family’s own resources are tapped, to help children and families deal with and thrive in the context of parental separation and divorce.
Program Plan
This program aims to support new and hopeful ways of understanding your changing family. The program workshop activities generate a tangible record of the celebration of the family as it changes, heals, and grows stronger. The scope of the program depends upon the individual family’s interest for involvement. This model sets the stage for enhanced awareness, relationship building, and skill development.
Families and Storytelling
Attachment relationships and the healing power of storytelling are at the basis of this program. The aim is to provide scaffolding to strengthen family relationships and empower families, embracing each person’s uniqueness, strengths and needs, and attending to the whole person as well as to the whole family constellation. Extended family, blended families, friends, and others in the support network may be included so that hurts can be validated and healed, and so that the family culture is celebrated and honored.
Mindful Awareness
Mindful awareness is an essential element that promotes emotional accessibility, responsiveness and a genuine sense of connectedness with another. Awareness of self and other in interpersonal interactions is encouraged.
Empathy, effective communication, and self-soothing strategies promote tolerance for family members to share individual narratives and appreciate the perspectives of the other.
Emotional regulation and well being may be achieved through the development of stories people tell about themselves and about their relationships.
Contact Darlene if you have an interest in the Constellations program. It can be available as an individual family experience, or within the context of a multi-family workshop.
